Religious Education Behavior Guidelines

  • Respect yourself and each other.
  • One person talks at a time. Raise your hand to be recognized.
  • Listen quietly when another person is talking.
  • Make only positive comments about another person.
  • Use indoor voices.
  • Each person has personal space. Control your own body.
  • Follow teacher's first request.
  • You are "allowed to pass" during discussion.
  • You are to remain in the group during all activities.
  • Respect the living plants and animals and treat them as gently.
  • Treat the buildings and grounds respectfully and with care.

Consequences for not following guidelines:
Student will be asked to adhere to rules, if they do not comply after the first request in class, student will be escorted upstairs to join the service with their parent or other assigned adult for the remainder of class.

If the same individual does not follow guidelines during another class, the student will be escorted upstairs to join the service for the remainder of the class and a meeting between the student, parents, and teacher(s) will be requested before the next class.

A third charge will result in a meeting with student and the minister.

Expectations For Children During Friendship Hour

We are a rapidly growing church with a young, vibrant community of children.   We also have limited space.   Over the Summer, we in Religious Education polled the congregation in order to create a list of behavioral guidelines for coffee hour so that children and adults may reap its benefits.   This list enables adults, as well as children, to understand the congregation's expectations.   The list will be presented to the children at the beginning of the church year, and will enable adult members of the congregation to remind offenders of what the expected behavior should be.   Any child who cannot meet these expectations should remain in the company of their parent during coffee hour.

Areas off limits to children during coffee hour:

  • The church office
  • Minister Lawson's office
  • Altar and piano area
  • Fir tree in front of church
  • Side and front of Church (stay in playground area)

General Behavior

  • No running inside (safety issue)
  • No hitting
  • No throwing
