Our focus on Anti-Racism

2/17/2020

Our anti-racism effort began on Martin Luther King Sunday with guest speaker William Dickerson, II who invited us to look deeply, at how we each are called to create racial and social justice.  Will is the Executive Director of the Brockton Interfaith Community and one of Brockton’s leading social justice advocates. You can hear his sermon on our SoundCloud channel.

The Social Justice anti-racism initiative will run until the end of March, except on March 22, when Monica Cannon Grant from Violence in Boston will talk about gun violence and gun control.

January through March we will have Brown Envelope collections during our Sunday offering for:
  • The National Black Doll Museum of History and Culture, Jan. 19- Feb. 23.  We are lucky to have the Black Doll Museum as our neighbor in Mansfield. The museum was created to tell the story of African Americans through the eyes of a doll collector and we are proud to be supporting their work.
  • The Road to Diversity and Understanding, Mar. 1- Mar. 29. "We are dedicated and committed to actively challenging racism and building cross-cultural understanding and friendship in the Norfolk and Bristol County area - and everywhere else we can reach!" We are happy to support this grassroots effort!
On most Sunday's during this initiative. one of our Social Justice Committee members will share a 2 minute presentation about their experience of and/or impressions about race/racism/anti-racism as part of our "Social Justice Minute" during Sunday service. After the service, anyone is invited to discuss the topic with the presenter.
