"Because climate change is a truly global, complex problem with economic, social, political and moral ramifications, the solution will require both a globally-coordinated response (such as international policies and agreements between countries, a push to cleaner forms of energy) and local efforts on the city- and regional-level (for example, public transport upgrades, energy efficiency improvements, sustainable city planning, etc.).
It’s up to us what happens next."  -NASA

To kick off our effort on climate change.  Laura Wagner, MSW, Executive Director of UU Mass Action was the guest leader of our worship service on October 6th. Her sermon, "Creating Justice," can be found on our SoundCloud podcast.

Visit our information table after church during the month of November. Below are the resources and suggested action items  that we have highlighted:
  • Climate Crisis Primer - a resource that concisely explains some of the problems we are facing.
  • Comparison of climate impacts at 1.5°C, 2°C, 3°C and 4°C - this is the source of the graphics displayed at church.
  • Climate Changes Health - the impacts of climate change on our health.
  • Take Action - How you can help! Here you'll find links to local and national organizations working on the problem. Visit the information table during Friendship Hour (11 am, after Sunday worship) for more information.
  • For the month of October, our brown paper envelope collections were for  350.org. For November, we are collecting for Sunrise. Collections are made during the church offering.
For those pressed for time, become one of 350.orgs Ten Minute Heroes!
Ten Minute Heroes are people who are concerned about the climate crisis but have other commitments that keep them busy. With on occasional 10 minutes, at the right time, you can help tackle the climate crisis. You will receive emails with requests for quick action, when your input is critical.  A quick call, an email, a word to a friend--that’s all it may take. We'll try not to email you more than once a month—we know you're busy! But sometimes a burst of people power makes all the difference, and we can tell you when you're needed. To find out more and join, click here

Just in from UUMass Action:
UUs Showing Up for Climate Action & Justice! Again!

Join Us: UU Climate Action Advocacy Day
Tuesday December 17, 10:00 AM – 12:30 PM

We’ll meet at the State House in a conference room 413E, briefly
go over the bills and the plan and then send a team of volunteers
to each floor on the State House. All the materials you’ll need will
be provided – we just need you! This is part of a coalition wide
effort to have weekly groups visit every legislators office to keep
up the pressure about our bills!

The Plan: there will be 8 teams (minimum, 2 people per team). Each team will be assigned a floor in the State House. The teams will drop off packets of information and have short
conversations about why they are there. All materials will be provided to you. Just wear your yellow, "Side with Love," shirt (if you have one--you can get one here: www.uuabookstore.org) and show up!

You can learn more about the legislation here:
